Jemima discovered Pilates during her dance training at Laban
in 1994-1997. Pilates has helped her recover from several sports
related injuries during her training and also to prevent dance injury
throughout her career. She trained at The Place on a Pilates
Foundation accredited course between 2002-2005, during which time she
also had a baby. She is a registered instructor with the Pilates
Foundation, a not-for-profit foundation created to uphold the quality
of Pilates teacher training and practice.

Pilates
during pregnancy
Pilates is a gentle but profound exercise which focuses on dynamic
postural alignment, relaxation, strengthening and toning
muscles,improving and maintaining good postural habits. It is a
wonderful form of exercise for pregnant women, suitable for all stages
of pregnancy.

Classes are tailored to individual needs, but also focus on the general needs of the three trimesters of pregnancy:
General whole body toning, developing and maintaining good postural habits.Toning the pelvic floor and transversus abdominis (deep abdominal muscles), as well as back muscles to develop a healthy toned 'core'.
Relaxation and coordination.
Thinking about your changing body and what is needed
strengthening arms and legs in preparation for child birth and breast feeding.
Learning how to soften pelvic floor.
Practicing helpful positions for the different stages of labour including birthing positions.
